Spanish Immersion
Spanish is an important part of our culture and community. Here in Texas, and in an increasingly bilingual world, the ability to understand and speak another language opens doors to connection, confidence, and growth.
Young children are especially well-suited to learning language. At this age, they absorb sounds, patterns, and meaning naturally. Learning a second language strengthens listening, memory, and communication skills, while also supporting overall cognitive development.
At DKH, Spanish is introduced in a way that feels natural and engaging. Through songs, stories, art, and everyday conversation, children begin to understand and use language in meaningful ways.
All DKH students in Junior Kindergarten and above participate in weekly Spanish classes as part of the school day.
How Children Experience Spanish at DKH
Children learn through:
- songs and movement
- storytelling and conversation
- hands-on activities and art
- exposure to written language in meaningful context
The focus is on participation, familiarity, and confidence, allowing language to develop over time in a supportive environment.
Continued Learning
For families looking for additional exposure, we also offer after-school Spanish enrichment.
This program runs from 1:00–3:15 PM, giving children extended time to practice and engage with the language in a relaxed, familiar setting.
Schedule options include:
- Tuesday/Thursday
- Monday/Wednesday/Friday
- Monday–Friday
These sessions build on what children experience during the school day, offering more opportunities for conversation, repetition, and confidence-building through play-based learning.
